August Book Club: The Unsinkable Greta James

copy of Jennifer E. Smith's novel The Unsinkable Greta James

This morning, I hosted the very first Literary Road Trip book club. I'm familiar with moderating in-person book clubs, but this was my first time being part of a virtual book club. After careful consideration, I decided to use a website called Bookclubs.com as the landing page for our group.

Bookclubs.com is a website built specifically for book club hosting and it has a video meeting function that means we can do everything from their page. It also has a message board feature, giving our club a way to connect outside of the monthly meeting. I just set up a message board post specifically for The Unsinkable Greta James. I'd love to hear what August subscribers thought of the book!

Today's book club was made extra special by the attendance of author Jennifer E. Smith. She was kind and enthusiastic, answering all types of questions about her book The Unsinkable Greta James, her writing life, her previous works, her thoughts on Alaska, et... It was a wonderful conversation and we were so lucky to have Jennifer join us. She has two upcoming releases: a children's picture book titled The Creature of Habit Tries His Best, and an adult fiction book called Fun for the Whole Family. One of the themes in her upcoming adult book is traveling to the fifty states. It couldn't be more perfect for our Literary Road Trip and I hope to create a future stand-alone box around her upcoming novel.

I hope that you've all had the chance to read The Unsinkable Greta James. Jennifer's website has fun content regarding Greta and all of her books. My favorite is a section showing international covers for her books. Please visit her website here.

The Literary Road Trip Book Club is open to all current subscribers and the next book club meeting will be announced as soon as the September boxes are recieved by subscribers. New box subscribers will receive an email with a link to join the site. The site is free and you can set privacy options to your own comfort. If you are uncomfortable with sharing your video screen or voice during book club, please don't shy away from coming. You will have an opportunity to ask questions via the chat function, while staying off screen. Please don't wait for the book club date to join the site, I'm hoping that it will be a place where we can discuss books all month long. Please reach out to me directly, if you have any questions.
