Indie Bookstore Spotlight: Wheatberry Books

Holiday Ornament and Bookmark from Wheatberry Books, Ohio

The December Literary Road Trip Box is themed to Ohio and created in collaboration with Wheatberry Books. Wheatberry Books is located in historic downtown Chillicothe, about an hour south from Columbus, Ohio.

With their tag line "An Independent Bookstore for Independent Thinkers," Wheatberry offers a wide range of books, encouraging their community to expand their horizons and discover new ideas. The store is located near a Children's Museum and has a family friendly vibe.

Book lover Chelsea Bruning opened Wheatberry Books in 2017. I particurally love a quote from Bruning that is on the Wheatberry site. About opening her own bookstore, Bruning says, "I think we all have a passion to really pass on what we love and share it with people. And this is my great love." As a bookseller, I relate to Bruning's words. I also feel passionate about connecting people with books and for promoting amazing indie bookstores like Wheatberry Books.

Wheatberry Books hosts monthly bookclubs and events, such as author signings. They have fabulous sideline items such as greeting cards, puzzles, and store merch. For the December box, Wheatberry kindly send us their store branded bookmarks and we included a woodcut holiday ornament. The ornament has a place of pride on my Christmas tree and it has started me on a mission to collect other book-themed ornaments!

Please visit Wheatberry Books the next time you are in Chillicothe or if you don't live near Ohio, they have a fantastic webstore that can fulfill out-or-area orders. Wheatberry Books is a charming store, please take a look at their instagram account and show them some indie bookstore love!
