The August 2024 Literary Road Trip Box takes us to the 49th state in the union; home to glaciers, seafood, and dog sledding...Alaska.
Our feature book is Jennifer E. Smith's The Unsinkable Greta James. This story follows a singer on the rise who has a spectacular public meltdown following her mother's death. Her father suggests that they take a father/daughter Alaskan Cruise, a vacation that he had planned to take as an anniversary trip with his wife. This is a story about healing and family bonds set against the dramatic backdrop of Alaska.
The August indie bookstore partner is Homer Bookstore, located in Homer, Alaska. Homer Bookstore opened in 1974 and is one of the oldest indie bookstores in the state. We have included their otter sticker and store bookmark in the August Box.
Alaska is famous for its seafood and ocean products. Taste the state with a 10 oz jar of Alaskan Kelp Salsa from Barnacle Foods located in Juneau.
Artist Valisa Higman has a line of greeting cards with designs inspired by her state. Higman lives in Seldovia, Alaska and the kind people at Homer Bookstore sold us her cards to include in the boxes. The cards came in five designs, shown above. The cards are randomly sorted into the boxes, but if you have a particular design that you would like, please note it at check-out and we will accomodate the request if we still have that design in stock. Please understand that we cannot guarantee a particular design.
Rounding out the August box, we have a pair of wooden whale earrings from Jedi Woods. This family owned business is located in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
