We head down south to Louisiana for our October "Spooky Season" Literary Road Trip Box.
The featured book is Attica Locke's The Cutting Season. This atmospheric mystery is set on the ficticious Belle Vie Plantation in Northern Louisiana. Caren Gray is the manager of the Belle Vie, where she balances educational reenactments of the antebellum past, with weddings and coporate parties that make use of the lush estate. When the body of a migrant worker on a neighboring farm is discovered, and one of Gray's employees is charged with the crime, Gray scrambles to uncover the truth of the murder, leading her down a sinister path. Locke's compelling characters and twisty plot will keep you intrigued until the last page!
Our indie bookstore collaboration for October is with The Conundrum Books and Puzzles located in Historic St. Francisville, Louisiana. The Conundrum is a charming small-town bookstore opened by Missy Couhig in 2015. In keeping with the community spirit, Couhig stocks her store with regional favorites, local authors, and books that her local patrons request. Her store is a community gathering place, where booklover Couhig is always ready with a recommendation.
